Hello, new favorite YA fantasy of the year. Do I seriously have to wait until late 2021 for the sequel?!? I don’t have that kind of patience.

I. Loved. This. Book. It swept me in from the very first page and I couldn’t put it down, finishing it as quickly as I could.

What I loved: The world building here is great. So much awesome scenery setting and you really feel immersed in the world of the book. I loved many characters, especially Zahru and Jet, but many supporting characters too. I liked how even the “bad” characters had many sides and a lot of personality. The book is filled with adventure and a little romance, in a way that works so well. I loved it so much I immediately wanted more! My only disappointment is that I already reached the last page and don’t have more to go.

What didn’t work for me: Besides that I’m done with the book and have to wait for the sequel? Honestly this book didn’t lack anything for me. I did feel like we didn’t get enough of Hen’s character and I felt the beginning was a little rushed, but the rest of the pacing is good, and this is a fast-paced adventure.

I cannot wait to read the next book in this series and would absolutely recommend it to fans of YA fantasy and even adult fantasy fans would likely enjoy this! This book is like if you mixed Mirage, The Selection, and The Hunger Games and that sounds so random but it really really works and it’s really really good.
