I’ll admit, I took me a couple chapters to get really into the storyline and the characters. It wasn’t so much that I thought the creation and building were bad (they were very well-done), I just needed to myself to the characters and figure out what makes Zahru tick.
Once I got into the book, there was no stopping me from finishing it in one day. I sat on the beach and read until my eyes were dropping, and even then, I forced them to remain open. I couldn’t get enough! The relationship dynamics between the characters was incredibly relatable, except for the human sacrifice/murder part. The friendships between Sakira and Zahru and Maia and Zahru, the danger of Zahru and Kasta, and the adorable awkwardness and the way Zahru and Jet care about each other added a whole new element to the book that was pleasingly expected.
I highly recommend “The Kinder Poison” to anyone who wants to escape to a world of magic, intrigue, and sacrifice!
