The Kinder Poison by Natalie Mae is a thrilling YA fantasy adventure. I enjoyed the world building and magical system, along with the resulting politics. Three siblings are embarking on a trek across the desert to determine who will become ruler in place of their ailing father. Our main character, Zahru, is a stable girl with lower class magical powers who ends up far move involved in the crossing than she ever wanted to be. With a great cast of characters and a developing romance, The Kinder Poison kept my attention throughout the entire book. I flew through this book in just a couple of days, way faster than I had expected. I look forward to the sequel coming out in a few weeks, The Cruelest Mercy.⁣ I thought the ending of this book was about to finish off happy and complete, and then Mae throws in a surprise twist. I am glad I don't have to wait too long to find out what happens next. My copy of the sequel is already pre-ordered so it'll be on it's way to my house on publication day, June 15th.
