I would say that I thoroughly enjoyed The Kinder Poison. The book centers on Zahru, a Whisperer who has the ability to communicate with animals, as she is swept into a deadly race between three siblings. The writing is great and the characters are complex. For example, there are deeper reasons behind Kasta's desperation to win the Crossing. I also like the magic system in this book, that there are consequences when one's magic runs out. For example, once a Healer's magic runs out, they die. I know everyone says not to judge a book by its cover, but The Kinder Poison's cover is absolutely beautiful. The purple and gold perfectly complement each other. I also want to note that the ending of this book was great; it will be interesting to see how everything plays out in The Kinder Poison's sequel.
