Within 4 pages I was hooked. Sarah and her coworkers onboard the ship are scanning the ocean floor when they come across something that shouldn't be there, something that isn't natural. Trin wakes up deep under water and discovers he and his captain are the only two among thousands that are conscious, and they try to figure out what, or who, woke them up after sleeping for many millennia. (If you've seen the movie Passengers, with Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt, that's EXACTLY what happens to Trin in this First Look.)
I was apprehensive at first since this didn't seem like what I usually read, but I could NOT put this down. I kept on skipping ahead trying to figure out what was going on and who or what these mysteries really were. Are the mysterious beings malignant? Are they peaceful? Will worlds collide with only one surviving? Will they learn to cohabitate? I cannot wait to read the full length novel so I can finally know what happens.
