The first few chapters don't tell you much. They introduce you to the main characters as well as the setting. It seemed more like the author was describing a movie vs writing a book. The book is wordy incredibly wordy and some sentences are unnecessary.
We are also told basically everything instead of showed the characters personalities and how everything around them works. You don't get to discover anything for yourself as the reader.
