Description

On the outskirts of San Diego, the bodies of two young women are discovered. They have no names, no IDs, and no family looking for them. Fearing the possibility of a human trafficking ring, the police and FBI reach out to Alice Vega, a private investigator known for finding the missing, for help in finding out who the Janes were--and finding the others who are missing.     Alice Vega is a powerful woman whose determination is matched only by her intellect, and, along with her partner Cap, she will stop at nothing to find the Janes before it is too late.
Louisa Luna is writing new classics of crime fiction, and her partnership of Vega and Cap is rightfully joining the pantheon of the most memorable in crime fiction.

My Thoughts

Alice Vega and Mac Caplan from Two Girls Down have returned! I thought the first book was an excellent read and I've been keeping my eye out for the next installment. The Janes plot is centered around another heartbreaking topic, sex trafficking.

When the bodies of two teenage girls are found, one of them is clutching Alice Vega's business card. Why? Is there a connection or did this unknown Jane somehow hear about Alice's work? It's enough to prompt the police to hire Alice to investigate. Finding out their identities as well as their killer(s) has Alice reaching out for assistance from Cap.

The story was good and the dynamic between Alice and Cap was still there. However, this didn't leave me furiously flipping pages like I did while reading Two Girls Down. There were some surprising twists and the ending was solid. I never recommend reading a series out of order, so if you haven't read the first book, you will learn a little bit more about Alice and Cap's backstories.

Though I have to say, there is still much to learn and I look forward to the next book. 3.5 stars.
