Specific Details
The prologue is fascinating, but from the first pages of Emer's story, what really struck me were the specifics. There's information that we *don't* have for plot purposes, and which the author is clearly teasing out over time, but the details of Emer's actions are so well thought out, and so clearly described, that even without telling us directly what Emer is thinking and feeling in each moment, we get a very clear sense of her. Not only did this make me want to know more, it left me confident that anything that WASN'T explained right away would eventually become clear. I'm really curious about what's going on, and I loved the voice.
