This is a story about how sometimes love and empathy can be the most important superpower. I went into this knowing it would be cute, and of course it was, but what I got was actually much deeper than a cute YA supernatural romance. Caleb and Adam are a complicated pair, Caleb being able to physically feel other people's emotions and Adam suffering from sometimes debilitating depression. On their journey, they both have to deal with seemingly insurmountable roadblocks because of these things. It seemed beautifully real to me the way that this relationship didn't come easy or even end up in a way that would be considered perfect. I loved the idea that there are more people in this particular universe that are like Caleb and I was excited to see that it looks like any following books will be about those people. However, I can't help but feel that this book could've been longer. I know, I'm so annoying to say this because a lot of times I'm the one saying that things could be edited down. In this case though, I am in dire need of more. I need more complications with Adam's parents, I need more scary circumstances with Caleb's powers, and I genuinely hope that this is not the last I'll ever see of these boys. I've basically decided that they're my sons now and I will protect them.

* Since writing this review a few months ago, I've learned that there IS in fact more of these two in the podcast the book is based on - thank GOD.
