I enjoyed this novel very much! As a listener of The Bright Sessions, I was excited to read this and I was not disappointed. This story follow 16 year old Caleb Michaels as he navigates high school and his new found enhanced empathy, which allows him to feel the emotions of others. Caleb soon begins to notice the strong emotions from his classmate Adam & begins to wonder how he can better understand why he feels this way. Caleb begins to communicate more with Adam & eventually begins to feel a swirl of feelings that he cant be sure are his.
We also meet Caleb's family, classmates, his therapist Dr. Bright, fellow patients of Dr. Brights', Adam, and his family. This story is told through a dual perspective, first person point of view that really allows you to better understand these characters. The writing is descriptive and easy to follow, and engrosses you in these characters thoughts. The writing in this novel is more about the characters than the world, so world building is kept to a minimum!
If you are at all interested in The Bright Sessions, or a nice character driven novel that explores the finer details of emotions and introspective reflections on feelings, this is a great introduction!
