I always say how far young adult books have come since I was a tween, and I’ve meant it in a positive way. However, as I keep getting exposed to more and more YA books, I’m beginning to think it wouldn’t hurt if they toned it down just a tiny bit and wrote something that was actually for... kids. Just about every YA book nowadays seems to be about heavy subjects and really, really depressing. I’m suddenly very glad my childhood was filled with feel-good, fluff reads that created unrealistic expectations because this almost gets to be too much.
