I thought this book was going to be about alchemists and the elixir of life. It vaguely touches on immortality, but it is not really centered on the subject at all. Four siblings: Klara, Daniel, Varya and Simon go to a traveling psychic woman who can tell when you'll die. She gives each of them a date and it haunts them for the rest of their lives.
I did enjoy the overall story here, but I felt like the synopsis/title lead me in the wrong direction. After the children see the psychic, we see how her death sentence changes their lives and exactly what they do with the time left they have.
Each of the children had an interesting life to tell. I loved all of them except Daniel's. His story was strange and I didn't really care for how he ended. Everyone else was fascinating and their story really enraptured me.
