I loved this book! From the first page, when you meet the Gold children in the summer of 1969, you are drawn in, and the book doesn't let go until the last page. The structure, each sibling getting a section, the newest one beginning where the last one ends, made for great pacing. Each Gold child leads incredibly different lives, and each story enriches the book more and more. My favorite section was Simon, partially because of his fearless lifestyle, partially because it gave a glimpse of the AIDS scare of the 80s and 90s that many people today are too young to understand. But each section is written with care and love, making it obvious the author put her heart on each page. The theme of time being precious was pertinent on every page without being preachy. My biggest complaint would be with elder brother Daniel's section, and with the character Eddie. Eddie is an unnecessary plot device, and his use in Daniel's section feels forced, making the character do things that I thought were wildly out of character. That aside, this was a book with depth, heart, and soul, with an ending that will stick with you for some time after.
