An absorbing premise unfolds into a haunting and poignant exploration of fate, free will, and destiny. One day in 1969, four siblings aged thirteen to seven go to a fortune teller who is rumored to be able to tell you the exact date of your death. Each one of them is required to engage her presence separately. What they each learn about their futures deeply impacts how they perceive and face the life they have before them.

Is it better to know how much time you have or not? Does the knowledge of when you are going to die provide clarity and freedom in terms of the choices you make? Or do your life outlook and choices inevitably become shaped by your knowledge of the exact day of your death?

These are the questions that are answered as each of the siblings as grow up and begin to make their way in the larger world. As we witness each of their lives unfold, we must wrestle with, were they each fated to live a certain way or are there choices shaping their destiny?

Beautifully written and offering some excellent character studies, this is insightful story that provocatively explores the meaning of life and death, joy and grief, as well as the strains and enduring bonds of family.
