It is a fascinating depiction of how much control we have in our lives. This is both surprising and predictable. Parts are truly moving and powerful. This is seen in the first two sections that highlight Simon and Klara as they are max more stronger than the last two- Daniel and Varya. I found that the sections tend to veer of course which would appear as a reflection of the characters yet the situation seemed too of focus. Varya’s section lost a bit more focus when it dwelled into the lack of passion and emotion. I think that Benjamin is a strong storyteller and that she creates a clear provoking book. The idea of the novel is quite out of the ordinary. If challenges how we view our lives and offers this new second chance to rethink how we might spend every second of our lives. It was an interesting approach to reveal the siblings deaths right at the beginning of the novel to really capture how they might play out their lives. It focuses on living currently and not dwelling on the past decisions.
