Promise unfulfilled

The premise of the book showed so much promise that I really wanted to like this book. Unfortunately, the promise was not fulfilled by the chapters I read. The opening (and a later) passage was surprisingly graphic/intimate, and seemed to have been dropped in for no real purpose, and felt disconnected from the rest of the story.

The excerpt provided was mostly prologue, and while it sets up the framework, it didn’t leave much room to become involved with the “how would you live your life” portion of the novel, which really was the part that intrigued me from the description “blurb”.

I was still hopeful that the rest of the plot would improve, but I found it difficult to connect with any of the characters, and felt relief when I got to the end of my allotted pages. I would not want to read further based on what I’ve read thus far.

I will say that the cover art would have caught my eye if I walked past it in a store, or saw it on line.
