The Immoralists is a darkly intriguing story with the prologue full of family, duty and mysticism mixed with hopes and dreams. Set in New York in the late 1960's, the story opens with the Gold children on a summer adventure to meet with a Rishika, a woman who can tell the future. The readings that each children has are not quite what they expected with effects that reach far into each of their futures. Can one live with the knowledge of when they are to die?

The start of this story is filled with drudgery, sadness and a darkness that hints the children have little to hope for. The imagery the author weaves into the story line sets the stage for a rather compelling tale and leaves the reader on the edge of their seat waiting to find out what happens next. How will this one pivotal event effects each of the Gold children's lives?

Even within the prologue, the author's writing style is impressive as she masterfully sets the tone of the story through emotive imagery that draws the reader in. I have to share that with such wonderful talent for writing, I was rather disappointed at some of the vulgarity the author chose to inflect in her story – especially in the first two sentences.

While I won't personally be pursuing finishing this book as it's not a good fit for my reading tastes, I have to share that I was impressed with author's writing style and found the book to be compelling.
