I received a free copy of "The High Season" by Judy Blundell from bookishfirst.com. It tries hard to be a not-to-put-down beach read, but falls short with too large a cast of characters with too many problems.

It centers around a middle-aged woman named Ruthie who is going through a
friendly divorce and has a mean-girl type daughter. They leave and rent their beach house in the summer season in order to live there the rest of the year and their tenant and many others cause problems of their own.

I think the author wants us to identify and relate with Ruthie and feel sympathy towards her at the end....I ended up feeling exhausted from all the diverse plot lines that were over the top. I felt like I had met all these characters in many other books and did not feel any kind of warmth towards Ruthie at all.
