I have never previously read anything by this author, but from the brief portion I read, I am very impressed. This smoothly written section presents the reader with an intriguing main character and several other well drawn secondary characters.

What we discover immediately is that Ruth is living in the wake of a difficult divorce, trying as best she can not to loose the style of life and level of comfort to which she had been accustomed. The result is that the perfect home she enjoys needs to be abandoned for the summer in order to pay expenses.

Her relationship with her daughter sounds like that of every parent. A teenager and her mother making due with each other's foibles as best they can. What is surprising is the level of comfort between Ruth and her ex-husband. They are a lot more comfortable than I would expect. This undoubtedly will play a role in the book.

Ruth also seems extremely familiar with her summer boarder. That too must certainly play a role in the book.]

I am looking forward to reading this book!
