Emily Calby and her sister, Becky, were playing outside when two men approached. Emily was wary of the two as was her mother. Believing the story of just needing some gas to be on their way, the three went back in the house and the unthinkable happened. Emily was able to escape. This book takes the read through some pretty fantastical escapades of being a 12-year-old on the run from two very bad men. Along her journey, Emily meets some shady characters and she meets Lucas, a big burly dude who developed a soft spot for Emily and became her protector.
For a debut novel, I can certainly see the writer’s potential. After a good edit, and maybe some tightening up here and there, this book is sure to appeal to some. It would be interesting to see what adventures Emily experiences in the second book.
