The opening scenes in the Hiding Girl are amazing, beginning with the unsuspecting family carrying groceries in from the car. Two dangerous killers walk up with the pretense of needing gasoline. Emily isn't fooled. The horrors of that night are revealed in scenes once young Emily hits the road. The more I learned about what she witnessed the easier it was for me to believe she had lost her mind, making her capable of following through with her mission: kill the mother*$#.
Get used to the language as there is plenty throughout the entire book.
Emily would have definitely cracked were it not for her own Goliath, Luca, aka, EZ.
A former gang member she tracked down in order to obtain a fake ID. Luca is hard, a killer himself who takes the time to teach Emily how to protect herself. And gifts her with a neck knife, for up-close encounters, and a gun.
Although at first, it was hard to believe Lucas would go to such lengths where she was concerned, human nature is unpredictable. And he has his own reasons for caring for this otherwise child who's completely alone in the world.
He saves her more than once. At times I had my doubts the author could even save her. Tied, gagged, and lying on a smelly living room carpet, with a room full of men who intend to kill her, left me wondering wtf had she gotten into? Even worse is the fact that Lucas is bleeding beside her, rolled up like an old rug ready to be disposed of. Boy, are they in a pickle!
You'll definitely want to read this book because it's full of street justice, human kindness, and lots of action in The Hiding Girl.
