The Hiding Girl was a good mystery, thriller like book. Emily is a young girl who is on the run in a dangerous situation. Somehow, she befriends a guy named Lucas when she went to get a fake ID. He's an ex-gang member with a crush on his equally baddie friend.
Throughout the book, some of the plot points were a bit predictable. But there were still some surprises and shock factor moments. However, what really saved it for me was Lucas and their friendship. It was the kind of weird relationship that makes no sense yet is somehow perfect. At the beginning of the book, I was apprehensive because Emily was 12 and I was worried she would be doing things that no 12 year old was capable of. But Lucas made her story, strength, and vulnerability fit her character well.
