Emily Calby is a 12 year old girl who suffers great trauma when her mother and 8 year old sister are raped and murdered in their own home by two men. Emily barely escapes and then goes on the run in fear for her life. At first, the only ones who know she is alive are the two men who have promised to kill her if they ever catch her.

Emily finds her way to Lucas, a forger whom she intends to purchase a driver's license. She needs a new age, 16, and new identity. What she gets is so much more. Lucas wasn't prepared for Emily. He was expecting an ex military man screwed over by the government. Instead he gets a 12 year old runaway with a sad history and a troubled future.

This book was incredibly good and I easily give it a 5 star review. The characters are well developed and likable. The relationship that builds between Emily and Lucas is rough but heart warming in its own way.
I was a little skeptical of Emily's age at first, as 12 seems unbelievable for the story, but that was my only concern. This was a fast page read that I finished in two days. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
