I liked this excerpt as I feel the author does a good job of getting you interested in Emily's character, especially since it starts before her family is murdered instead of dropping you in the present. I immediately wanted to know more about what happened that day and I enjoy the bits we see of Emily not being able to healthily deal with that trauma. I also like the relationship between her and Lucas and can't wait to see how that develops. I'm not a big fan of the cover of this book though.
