Emily is an astounding character for so many reasons. She is 12 years old, but highly intelligent. She has an impressive vocabulary, thanks to her mom's encouraging her to always learn new words, and she is not afraid to speak up. She is feisty and observant. She is on the run.
The day her world changed started out like any other. Ordinary errands, bringing home groceries. Suddenly, strangers appear and destroy her family. Now Emily is crossing state lines, seeking out black market help with an ID that will enable her to keep running. When she reaches her goal, though, she may find more help than just what a fake ID can give her.
As I reached the end of the First Look, the hairs on my arms raised, and I knew in my heart that this is going to be a story that will stick with me for a long time to come.
