Hendricks Becker-O’Malley moves to a new town seeking a clean slate from a traumatic past. Her parents purchase The Steele House, known around town because it’s haunted. Spending nights in the house becomes rough as the house awakens. Hendricks, along with a neighbor, attempt to rid the house of their ghost with disastrous results.

I absolutely loved all the creepy haunting scenes in the book. They were so well written that I felt creepy and I did not want to read it at night. All the fear the character feels, you completely get as the reader. The twist at the end I did not see coming! Even with all that, I didn’t care for Portia and Raven. I don’t think they added much to the plot of the story other than giving Hendricks friends during her fresh start. The slight romance element to it also didn’t do much for me, I kind of felt like it was forced as part of the whole fresh start in a new town. I did however appreciate the relationship that grows between Hendricks and her neighbor. There is a small scene that involve skeletons in the yard which I had to laugh at. I did not find it scary whatsoever and it all seemed pretty cheesy. I loved Danielle’s Merciless series so I was very happy to pick up The Haunted and I will continue to pick up anything Danielle Vega writes.
