Danielle Vega's prose is absolutely entrancing. Just a few pages in, I knew there was no going back, I was luxuriating in the flow of words. I had thought perhaps I wasn't so much in the mood for paranormal lately. And then I got to read an excerpt from THE HAUNTED and there was simply no going back...I want more of that beautifully crafted writing. Vega also nails the inner life of a Young Adult teen with some serious complexity. The details of why this fresh start is needed spool slowly, organically as part of Hendricks' narration and not via a heavy hand or authorial exposition. Add to this, the slow influx of creepy at the start and then more. Hendricks is hesitant to share what she is experiencing because of the complications, a desperate need to avoid her parents thinking she is crazy in the light of all the things that happened before this fresh start. The question is, will this fresh start become a deadly one?
