To start out, I didn't hate this book, it just really wasn't my cup of tea. Generally I can enjoy a murder mystery or procedural thriller if it's done originally and well. That being said, I had hoped this would be 'one of the good ones' that would let me dip my toes back into the genre. The premise certainly seeemed unique enough from other books I've read- a crime detective in Paris isn't something I see a lot of. However, I couldn't really find it in my to relate to the main character. Most of the characters just seemed a shade off from realistic. Maybe that's part of the appeal for some people, but I couldn't really get around it.
The setting seemed authentic enough, and the author certainly wasn't afraid to throw some French in there too. Overall, I'm pretty ambivalent on this story, so I probably won't be reading the other novels, but if it's your thing you might enjoy it.
