The Hanged Man's Tale is the first book I have read by Gerald Jay. Mazarelle is a very likable character and is much like a French Sherlock Holmes. The book begins with a would-be-assassin. Then there is a murdered man found hanging upside down in a river tunnel with the "Hanged Man" tarot card on his body. Reporter Claire Girard is calling the murder ""The Tarot Card Murder". Girard and Mazarelle have an interesting rapport throughout the book. They are both professionals, both doing their job but occasionally Girard gets into the police business. There is also a romance budding between Girard and Mazarelle. The book was very well written. The cover art is very well done. The book was also full of twists and turns and surprises. I will check out the other books Jay has written with Mazarelle as the main character. Overall a good book to read if you are into mysteries.
