I didn't know this was technically book two of the series until after I read it, but I didn't feel lost at all. You don't need to read the first one, which is great because you can just pick this up and dive into the story.

Inspector Paul Mazarelle is transferred to Paris, and his team is assigned to a high-profile murder case. A man has been found hanging upsidedown with a tarot card of the hanged man tucked into his breast pocket. And this man is another inspector.

This book was fast-paced, and I had a hard time putting it down. I wanted to solve the mystery, figure out who was responsible and more importantly, why. To me, Paul wasn't the most likeable protagonist. I just didn't understand him as maybe I should have, and that made it more difficult than it should have. But overall, I loved his story arc and the mystery surrounding the murder. Great read!
