After reading several similar-sounding books in this genre in 2019, I've come across some good or great ones and also some tired and cliched ones. Based on the first few chapters of The Half Sister, I've gotta say there aren't any monumental surprises so far but it's impressively character-driven. The character building and relationships seem well drawn out and full of depth. The writing is comfortably easy to get into. I think the level of tension could be higher, but it might have a faster pace in future chapters.
