I tend to ignore promotions that compare a novel to a TV Show or a novel with a similar plot because it tends to only bring disappointment. However, this novel was compared to Westworld and The Handmaid's Tale and that comparison was correct!

What I Liked:

Writing Style. I knew that I wanted to pick up this Fantasy novel the moment I saw the cover. However, what sold me completely on reading it was the sample supplied by Bookishfirst where I saw Charlotte Nicole Davis's writing style. I found that her writing style was my favorite aspect of the novel and she is now on my auto-read list.

Plot. I found the plot action-packed and unique all the way through. I'm hoping that we get another book with these characters. It has been a while since I picked up a book that was both well-written and had a great plot, and this had equal amounts of both.

Fantastical/Western Elements. The novel is set in a fantastical world where there are raveners, who can take over your mind, and there are ghosts and the undead that roam the lands. However, Davis also mixes in Western elements that make this novel a step above just a Fantasy novel.

Characters. The novel is told from Aster's point of view, a Good Luck Girl, as she goes on the run with her sister Clementine from the "welcome house" because she accidentally murdered a man. The novel focuses on five of these Good Luck Girls as they try to escape in this world where women are treated like goods to be bought instead of people. Davis did such a great job crafting these strong female characters that I was rooting for each of them right from the start.

Action/Intensity. The novel opens up with an intense scene and never stops bringing the action until the end. It kept me on the edge of my seat and I struggled to put it down because I needed to know what would happen next.

I recommend checking out this well-written Fantasy novel that is action-packed with strong characters and has a unique plot.
