“Westworld meets The Handmaid’s Tale” is a fairly apt description, but even that doesn’t prepare you for this book.
This is really such a beautiful book. The world-building is amazing. Even without telling the reader every detail, there is still so much going on in this Wild West-like setting. The story takes a centuries-old tale and puts a unique spin on it that is at once painful and enthralling. This is definitely a book that is hard to put down.
Aster, the narrator, was the perfect voice for this story. I don’t think anyone else, including Clementine, who catalyzed the whole adventure, would have worked as well.
I feel like there is still so much of this world and Aster’s character to explore. Plus, plenty of unanswered questions that I need answers for. I’m really looking forward to the sequel.
