It is clear that this author has skills. I felt like I was immediately drawn into the welcome house with Clementine, Aster, and friends. The story itself was hard to read, because the author was so skilled at bringing everything to life, and the subject matter is emotionally fraught.

Clementine, a 16-year-old on the verge of womanhood, is about to lose her virginity in a whorehouse, where she is spending her first night as a woman for sale. But things don't go as planned when she panics, and she relies on her sister and friends to help cover up the murder and escape. Hopefully. The reader must continue on in the book to see how things actually go for our heroines.

The setting of the book isn't exactly clear; there are elements of a world other than Earth present, but some things sound very similar to the way we do things.
