Don't let the seemingly simple cover fool you- The Godmothers by Monica McInerney is complicated enough to compete with almost any book of the genre. The cast of characters themselves were multi-faceted and interesting, not in the least because it seems like al off their secrets had secrets. At times it was a little frustrating because communication and honesty could solve so many problems, but that's also part of the appeal of these kinds of books. The book jumps between Australia and Scotland for the setting, which I found kept me more incested than if it had remained stagnant in one place. Overall, the biggest draw to this book is how the characters are involved with and care about each others' lives. This isn't a simple story, but rather a profound one on the bonds of family and friendship, and how they change throughout our lives.
