Eliza has had special relationships with her godmothers, Maxie and Olivia all her life but especially following her mother’s death 13 years ago when Eliza was only seventeen years old. When Eliza loses her job in Melbourne, she decides to travel to Edinburgh for Maxie’s wedding, spend time with her godmothers and attempt to find her birth father with their help. Eliza makes new friends, finds family in Ireland and begins a romance before returning to Australia with some of the answers she was looking for and taking her life in a new direction.
This was an enjoyable and engaging story with a bit of everything - female friendships, a little mystery, some humor and a bit of romance. There was a lot going on but things weren’t totally wrapped up in a neat package. There were still some secrets and family turmoil remaining but overall, the book had a satisfying ending. The characters were great although I agree with another reviewer that I would like to know more about Lawrence. Celine was hilarious and Sullivan very endearing - great additions to the story.
