Real. Raw. Painfully honest.

The writer pulls no punches when describing the thought process of someone who has an eating disorder. Anna believes that she is in complete control of what is happening to her body. She convinces herself that she isn't "suffering" from anorexia - she's controlling it.

The author beautifully weaves together Anna's current situation - in a recovery center - with flashbacks that give us a peek into how Anna and her husband and the circumstances that led them to move from Paris, France, to St. Louis, Missouri. The flashbacks also help to describe Anna's descent into illness without giving away too much too soon.

Some readers may find it uncomfortable to hear how Anna describes her condition. The frank belief that there really isn't anything wrong with her. But if you have ever known or loved someone who has struggled with an eating disorder, you will find Anna to be believable and relatable even in her brokenness.
