Interesting, but lacks depth.

The Girls at 17 Swann Street contains content about eating disorders - major, major trigger warning y'all in regards to eating disorders, death, and mental illness. It is heavy, describing both emotional and physical manifestations of anorexia.

The primary character is a ballerina and describes her descent into the depths of eating disorders, further complicated by moving to the United States. Her struggle with food and a sense of identity is described through prose I would call blunt, straightforward, and in some cases, graphic. This book will certainly tear at your heart strings, but it was very self-centered. It is a narrative of one person, her relationship with her body, and a few of her personal relationships.

It can be difficult to get through at times, but thankfully the protagonist does leave you with a sense of hope. This is not a fun book, but it is an important one.
