The Girls at 17 Swann Street is a fictional account of a dancer named Anna who is in a treatment center for an eating disorder. We gain insight into how her issues with food developed through flashbacks. While detached and quiet at the beginning of her stay, Anna begins to rely on the other girls in the center for friendship and support.
I thought the author did a great job of presenting the emotion that Anna feels. You could feel her fear when she is at the table with food in front of her. I liked that this story addressed the issue of eating disorders without being too preachy or full of medical jargon. It was interesting to have the first person viewpoint of the struggle rather than the third person view. You can feel the toll the process takes on Anna - both physically and emotionally. Overall, this was a decent read!
