A gem in my new-year's book pile!

It's hard to explain; but every once in a while I come across an author that writes as if they are speaking directly to me in a natural, interesting and enticing conversation. When this happens I connect to the book and won't put it down until I must say goodbye at the end of the "conversation". This book is one that involves the reader on a personal level regardless of personal background, experiences or knowledge on the delicate subject matter that is at the center of the story.

I believe stories can be one of the best ways to learn and become more empathetic-- this book easily accomplishes this. It's carefully written with honesty instead of exaggeration, reflection rather than summary, and reality without pretense.
