I'm not a usual reader of contemporary fiction and don't tend to seek it out, with the exception of the occasional breakout that everyone talks about. So this excerpt was somewhat strange for me to read in the sense that it's not my usual genre. To be quite honest, I wasn't really interested by it. The framing and narration made the time setting of this book quite unclear and that threw me off as well.
