This was a whirlwind of a ride and I was completely swept away! This picks up after The Bear and the Nightingale, with Vasya beginning her journey away from her small village. Unfortunately, she learns very quickly that she doesn't quite know how to navigate the cold outside world.

After several villages are sacked by burglars, Vasya goes on a rescue mission to find the lost girls. During this, she ends up running into her older brother Sasha (now Brother Alexander) and the Grand Prince of Moscow. Disguised as a boy, she must learn to navigate the court and favor of the Grand Prince.

I absolutely love Vasya and her sense of adventure. Every time one of her family members tried to cage, it made me shake with rage. This happened pretty often. It's horrible to think that some women only have marriage or going to a convent as an option! However, there were also a couple times I really wanted to smack Vasya because she was being unnecessarily obtuse. I would cringe and be like "oh gurl, you're gonna regret that decision". Cough cough cut your damn hair cough cough.

The other thing I love about this book is Morozko. I love this frost demon so damn much and I need to know everything about him. He deserves some happiness!! (view spoiler) The ending of this was crazy and so many things happened at once. I had so much adrenaline pumping through my body and I can't wait to see how everything plays out in the last book.
