I don't read a lot of things outside of my normal sci-fi and fantasy, so this book was a little bit outside of what I normally read. I liked the idea of it being about Russian folktales, but it was a little slow and dry at times for me.
The main characters felt a little dull to me, but that might be because I haven't read the first book yet, so I'm a little behind in that regard.
The story telling is pretty good and the writing is good, but I'm not sure I like the "story within a story" idea of their being parts of other tales told in the main story. Maybe that isn't the whole of the book and was just the bits that I read, but it wasn't something I enjoyed.
I'd be interested in reading the rest of this to see where it goes, but it might be one of those that takes me a good while to get through, especially since I struggle with foreign names and that slows down my reading a lot.
