I really enjoyed "The Girl in the Tower" written by Katherine Arden. This book follows its predecessor, "The Bear and the Nightingale". The series is called The Winternight Trilogy. Young Vasya has made the decision to escape an arranged marriage and living in a convent. She finds herself as the new person of affection from the Prince of Moscow, but she realizes that love is not as important as the kingdom she lives in. I like that this continues the series in a great way. Often, the first book begins the series, setting up all of the plot and characters. The second is so important, because then it follows the main action and often has some pretty great fight sequences.

Vasya is a great female character, because she wants more than just a romantic interest. She wants to be independent, and find her future on her own. I think she is also a great hero, and I'm excited to see where she will go from here.
