I thoroughly enjoyed "The Bear and the Nightingale" and was super excited to find a second novel hot on its tail.
In "The Girl in the Tower", we are back to the cold, dark Russian hinterland, where magical beings hide in the snowy folds of the wilderness, where anything can happen. Like "Nightingale", this novel starts off by detailing a harsh Russian fairy tale, one full of cold possibilities lurking in the cold dark.
Vasya is mentioned, which gets my interest right away, hoping for another journey on the back of the Russian traveler.
Arden writes beautifully, as she did in "The Bear", "The Girl in the Tower" rampant with poetic language and descriptive prose. The creativity of this novel is unparalleled, and I immediately seek more.
