This series as a whole is one of my all time favorite series. It starts out with the female protagonist being 7 years old. Now, I’ve read books where authors will use the character’s age as a way to excuse the stupid annoying things they do. But not Ms.Arden. Vasya’s character growth is amazing and she’s a bright child who you root for throughout her life. The series is so atmospheric. It feels like you’ve been sucked into a world where Russian folk lore has come to life.
As a woman, this book spoke to me. Vasya is stuck in a man’s world. A world where women get married because their only other option is a convent. A world where even marriage to royalty gives a women no freedom - only a cold tower where she’ll spend the rest of her life.
I could go on and on about this entire series. But I’ll just say this: it’s amazing please read it because you won’t regret it!
