I fell in love with the first book in this trilogy. The characters are well developed; the setting is fully realized and completely believable. The main character, Vasya, is very refreshing in a world of literature statured with one-dimensional heroes. She really stood out as someone I could see people looking up to. And her romantic interest helps the plot without simplifying her character.

I've never been a fan of authors starting off the first book as the "first in the trilogy." But this one definitely seems like it will go the distance to the final book. I'm looking forward to reading that one as well.

The use of the medieval Russian backdrop was particularly good. I'm looking forward to more from this setting and these characters.
