Vasya continues on her journey as she encounters magical creatures and tries to save her country. Katherine Arden captures the essence of Russian culture and storytelling making the reader feel like that they living Vasya's life. Not only is this story filled fantasy and adventure, it is really female empowered. Vasya is outcast for being a witch, and she must overcome obstacles in order prove that she is a warrior.
I really enjoyed the series. I loved all the magical elements and the triumphs that Vasya overcomes within the story. I find it to be a new fairy tale for today's generation. Instead of having the man save the damsel in distress, the women in this story are the saviors.
