I read "The Bear and the Nightingale" a few months ago and consider it one of the best fantasy reads of the year, so when I heard there was to be a sequel, I was overjoyed. This First Look shows that I have every reason to be excited! Vasya is a wonderfully strong and complex character, and I'm happy to see that her adventures in the Russian wilderness will continue alongside a cast of new characters. I also love the callback to the first book, which also began with a woman telling a folktale to a group of children.
