While I didn't read the first book in this series, I still felt like I understood the entirety of this book. It was a super fast paced read full of twists and turns. We follow Emily when she is 16 and Lucas gifts her a gun for her birthday. She ends up in a fight and all of a sudden is locked away in a juvenile detention center for an old murder charge.
Emily has to make it through the ups and downs of the juvenile detention center and we get a lot of a court room legal thriller vibe. I personally loved it and I loved seeing Emily in the courtroom.
I wish there would have been more of Lucas, but I understand this was focused on Emily and her time in the detention center.
I definitely want to go back and read the first book in this series, because I want a more in depth look at Emily and about what happened to her family. I think this was a really great thriller full of surprises. I loved Emily and can't wait to read more about her in more books!
